Virtual Coworker – Modern Slavery Policy

Our commitment
Virtual Coworker is committed to conducting business ethically, responsibly, and transparently. We take a zero tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, including forced labour, human trafficking, debt bondage, child labour, and servitude.
We are committed to respecting human rights across our operations and supply chains, particularly in relation to our offshore workforce in the Philippines.
Our business
Virtual Coworker is a global recruitment agency providing remote staff to small and medium sized businesses. We recruit, employ, and manage professionals primarily based in the Philippines.
While Virtual Coworker is not currently required to report under the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018 due to revenue thresholds, we voluntarily align our practices with the principles of the Act.
Our approach to preventing modern slavery
Ethical recruitment
We are committed to ethical recruitment practices and ensure that:
- No recruitment or placement fees are charged to candidates
- Employment is freely chosen
- All staff are provided with clear, written employment contracts
- Wages meet or exceed applicable local labour standards
- Working hours comply with local employment laws
Employment practices
Virtual Coworker ensures:
- All staff are legally employed
- Identity and right to work checks are completed
- Staff are free to terminate employment in line with contractual notice periods
- Safe and respectful working environments are promoted
Risk management
We recognize that offshore recruitment can present modern slavery risks. To manage these risks, we:
- Conduct due diligence on any third party suppliers
- Maintain direct employment relationships with our offshore team
- Regularly review recruitment, on-boarding, and employment processes
- Provide leadership oversight across offshore operations
Grievance and reporting
All staff have access to confidential reporting channels to raise concerns without fear of retaliation. Any suspected breaches of this policy are investigated promptly and addressed appropriately.

Leadership and management teams are responsible for ensuring awareness of ethical recruitment and employment practices. This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and relevant.
Governance and review
This policy is approved by senior leadership and reviewed annually or as required based on business operations or regulatory changes.
