From Steps to Smiles: How Virtual Coworker is Giving Back

At Virtual Coworker, community and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. Supporting meaningful causes isn’t just part of our corporate values—it’s something our team genuinely lives out. This year, through the Step-tember Challenge and holiday giving initiatives, our employees stepped up to support local charities in the Philippines. Here’s a look at their inspiring efforts.

Lala’s Haven: Creating Second Chances for Stray Animals

For Mereden Gamosa, the Step-tember Challenge was more than just counting steps—it was about saving lives. Her team chose to support Lala’s Haven, a shelter dedicated to rescuing stray cats and dogs. For Mereden, this cause was personal, as she had adopted Pluto, one of the rescues from the shelter.

On 14 November, Mereden visited Lala’s Haven and witnessed the unwavering dedication of its founder, Katherine. What started in 2018 as an effort to save one stray cat has grown into a sanctuary housing over 100 animals. Katherine’s hard work has already led to over 80 successful adoptions.

“Seeing the care and love these animals receive was incredibly heartwarming,” Mereden shared. “It reminded me how much of a difference we can make—whether for people or animals.”

Straylove PH: A Mission of Compassion

Romina Morallos’ connection to Straylove PH began with a simple wish: to honour the memory of her late dog, Candy. Romina and her team decided to support this shelter, which cares for abandoned and abused dogs.

On 28 November, they made the journey to Tanay Rizal and were welcomed by wagging tails and happy barks. Ms GT Lim, the founder, shared the shelter’s mission to give these dogs a second chance. “Every dog here has a story of hope and resilience,” Romina reflected.

“It’s not just about the donations,” she said. “It’s about showing these animals they’re not forgotten.”

Tahanang Pinagpala: Every Step Counts

For Raffie Ramos and her team, Step-tember wasn’t just a fitness challenge—it was a chance to give back. They chose to donate their proceeds to Tahanang Pinagpala, a care home for the elderly. Throughout the month, the team pushed themselves to meet their step goals, knowing it was for a greater purpose.

“Our efforts turned into more smiles and better care for the residents,” Raffie shared. “It’s humbling to see how small actions can create real change.”

The Children of Cebu Foundation: Spreading Christmas Joy

With Christmas on the horizon, Fritz Richter Repompo and his team focused on bringing joy to children in need. They chose to support The Children of Cebu Foundation, a refuge for kids who’ve faced abandonment and hardship.

On 22 November, the team spent the day playing games and sharing gifts with 18 bright and hopeful children. “Their joy reminded me of life’s true beauty,” Fritz said. “Christmas is about giving, love, and creating light for those who need it most.”

A Collective Impact

These stories highlight the heart, effort, and compassion of the Virtual Coworker team. Together, they raised funds, delivered donations, and brought hope to animals, children, and the elderly. It’s a testament to the incredible impact small acts of kindness can have when done together.

At Virtual Coworker, we’re proud to empower our team to make a difference. Their actions remind us all that, no matter how small, our efforts can create ripples of hope and joy for those who need it most.
